ALTMIRE: LAWRENCE COUNTY RECEIVING $52,119 TO STRENGTHEN SERVICES FOR FAMILIES IN NEED

(Washington, DC) — U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) announced that Lawrence County is receiving $52,119 to help local social service agencies provide food and shelter to residents in need. These funds were distributed through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (ESFP), which is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

A board comprised of representatives from local government and social services organizations will distribute the $52,119 to local organizations aiming to address the area's most pressing needs. Allowing local leaders to distribute this funding increases accountability and helps to ensure funding is provided to the groups who need it most.

“This funding is great news for Lawrence County,” Altmire said. “Now many local organizations will have more resources with which to help families struggling to stay afloat in a sluggish economy. We must continue to ensure local organizations on the frontlines of the fight against hunger and homelessness are properly equipped to meet residents’ needs.”

Funds can be used to bolster food, shelter, rent, mortgage and utility assistance programs.
