ALTMIRE DELIVERS $300,000 FOR EXPANSION OF PLUM SENIOR CENTER

Altmire secured funding in federal budget

(Plum Borough, PA) — U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today presented a check to $300,000 in federal funding to the Plum Senior Center to help it renovate and expand its facility. Congressman Altmire secured this funding in the final federal budget that passed the House in December.

Mayor Rich Hrivnak, Plum Borough City Council members, and local seniors were on hand for the check presentation to hear how renovation plans are progressing. The center is currently working with an architect to develop designs for the expansion.

“Each year, hundreds of seniors come to the Plum Senior Center to meet up with friends, listen to interesting and educational talks, and participate in exercise classes,” Altmire said. “With this expansion project, even more seniors will be able to take advantage of all that the Plum Senior Center has to offer. I am proud that I could deliver funding to move this project forward and I look forward to the day when seniors can enjoy these new and improve facilities.”

Originally built in 1980, the Plum Senior Center currently welcomes between 100-120 seniors each day for a variety of fitness and community activities. The facility still has its original kitchen, which is too small to accommodate all of the meals served at the center and its home delivered meal program. As a result of the new renovation project Congressman Altmire secured funding for, the Plum Senior Center will have an expanded kitchen featuring a café area and a fitness center where seniors can take exercise classes or work out individually.

“The funding Congressman Altmire secured is coming at the right time for moving us forward with our plans for an exciting new expansion, which will include the renovation of our existing, 28 year-old facility,” Nina Segelson, Director of the Plum Senior Center said. “When the new fitness center is opened, we will be able to serve 150 seniors per day. We have many exciting plans for this expansion and are very happy to be starting today.”
